The Kid, the Sock and the Swatch(es)

Here is the kid. Here is the sock (well, it is down there). The kid is loving the sock but looking for the other one to be finished pronto. Little does the kid know that I have to finish my two swatches for the FLAK (well actually he does know but doesn't really care; he's 12 and too ego-centric to be angsting about my time lines) as well as a whole bunch of other things. The kid is on a Dirt Wheels (magazine) watch - he got a subscription for Christmas and still hasn't gotten his first issue; waits for Dave (who with his wife Mary delivers our mail - ah the rural life). Every day he comes back up the driveway, shoulders slouched, disappointed because it still isn't here. I keep telling him to live in hope...and get back to his schoolwork! Having a blog is definitely increasing the pressure to knit and finish things (which Julie Schiltus at The Needle Emporium was only too happy to point out - and when I figure out the Link thing it will be a good thing). Impressively enough, when I finished the Jaywalker sock (okay only the first one) I actually sewed in the ends (did I really say that???) instead of putting it into my (overflowing) 'ends that need to sewn in' basket. Okay, there is the sock, to the right, very colourful Jaywalker in Regia Colour Nation (ends sewn in). I love to knit but I am so easily swayed by my competitive and A type personality to get caught up into obssessively knitting like a whirling dirvish (not always such a good thing). I can see where this is leading; good because it seems like a lot of knitting is about to be done with the ends sewn in; bad because I am not sure I will be doing anything else (besides blogging and figuring out the science behind the blogging!). Take today for instance - since yesterday I have been thinking "really need to get on my blog and update (I do really think with quotation marks, it's fun - multiply the blog thought about 5000 times)," "need to get that sock done so I can figure out the dynamics of the blog, get my swatches done, finish the Jamieson's Four Panel sweater, start the Art Yarns scarf, wind up the wool for the two Fairisles I am going to knit this year, work on....turn off the thoughts, turn off the thoughts.." It is like a whole new kind of mental disorder. I will soon be starting the Knitter's Anonymous group (however I am bound to fail because clearly one of the twelve steps would be to give up all my yarn AND THAT WILL NEVER FREAKING HAPPEN!!!) - forget KA. Back to today; it's almost 3pm and have I done any knitting? No - got up, breakfast for the kid, thinking about above, dishes, some office work for Ed, thinking about above, winding skeins, checking emails, thinking about above, trying to tidy up - oh my God I am a sterling example of knitting inefficiency. Okay I am going to go and knit my two swatches and get some knitting done!!! By the way tomorrow I will post what I sent Dawn as her reward (I think she's going to like it - tee hee hee) as I am thinking that she will get it today or tomorrow am. Can't wait to see what she thinks.

Yes it is YOUR blog and I am enjoying reading it ... but the world needs to know that there is at least one man who knows how to use an iron!
